Abstract
The article explores the connections between the Pearl poem and medieval romance motifs. Topics include the use of fairy themes and otherworldly landscapes in Pearl to create narrative ambiguity, the influence of similar motifs in works like Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and Le Conte du Graal, and the poem's engagement with the limitations of human knowledge and the contrast between material and spiritual existence.
