Abstract
The text "Deposition" by Sherman Alexie critically examines the contradictions in societal attitudes toward violence, justice, and power. It highlights the irony of individuals advocating for gun control, peace, and opposition to the death penalty while simultaneously celebrating violent acts such as the murder or execution of a bureaucrat. The poem questions the legitimacy of those who assume authority to decide life and death without due process and reflects on the collective complicity of communities that endorse violence against perceived enemies. It also warns that the most dangerous people are often those who share one's own beliefs and social circles, as they can both support and condemn with equal fervor.
