Abstract
This article announces the inaugural John Levis Award for Outstanding Publication, presented by the Journal of Second Language Pronunciation (JSLP) to Jialing Lu and Reiko Sato for their study on linguistic dimensions of comprehensibility and perceived fluency in second language (L2) Japanese speech by L1 Chinese speakers. The award recognizes research that extends beyond the typical focus on L2 English and L1 English learners. The current JSLP issue features four empirical studies on topics including bilingual research, L2 phonemic acquisition, orthography’s role in L2 German pronunciation, and segmental accuracy in Spanish learners of English, alongside the journal’s first brief reports addressing accent bias awareness and cross-linguistic similarity in L2 perceptual training. Additionally, two book reviews on bilingual phonetics and English word stress are included, with a special issue on prosodic features of L2 fluency forthcoming. [Extracted from the article]
