Abstract
British author Katherine Rundell is bringing her acclaimed middle grade fantasy series, Impossible Creatures, to the United States. Raised in Zimbabwe, Belgium, and England, Rundell draws inspiration from her diverse background and engages in daring activities such as tightrope walking and rooftop climbing. She finds inspiration for her writing in poetry and uses it to set the tone for her scenes. Rundell's Impossible Creatures series, which was a bestseller in the UK, introduces a secret island chain called the Archipelago where fantastical beings are in danger of extinction. The U.S. edition of the book features interior art and illustrations to bring Rundell's vision to life. Rundell believes in the power of words and hopes to inspire young readers to embrace language and return to her books time and again. She also explores the wonders of the real world in her non-fiction book, Vanishing Treasures: A Bestiary of Extraordinary Endangered Creatures. Overall, Rundell aims to cultivate awe and a sense of wonder in her young readers. [Extracted from the article]
