Abstract

Jean McCrindle (1937–2022) was a prominent figure in the British left, involved in the New Left, feminist movement, and solidarity campaign during the miners' strike of 1984–5. She was a feminist and socialist, an adult educator and historian. McCrindle's personal and political life was shaped by her upbringing in a Communist household, her involvement in the Communist Party, and her relationships with influential figures such as Raphael Samuel and Edward Thompson. She played a crucial role in organizing women's support groups during the miners' strike and later deposited records of the Women Against Pit Closures campaign at the Women's Library. McCrindle's papers are expected to provide valuable insights into the British left of the twentieth century. [Extracted from the article]
