Abstract
A recent study conducted in the Netherlands examined the differences in treatment perspectives between prison guards and mental health professionals working in a Psychiatric Prison Unit (PPU). The study used questionnaires and focus groups to explore the relationships between the two groups. The findings revealed that understaffing and high turnover rates in the correctional facility led to prioritization of safety concerns over treatment objectives. Additionally, differences in communication styles and individual-specific factors were identified as challenges in providing effective treatment within the confines of a correctional facility. The study emphasizes the need to address policy dynamics, communication limitations, and individual-specific factors to improve forensic care in prison settings. [Extracted from the article]
