Abstract
The European Commission has proposed weakening protections for wolves in the European Union in order to reduce predation on livestock. The proposal would allow EU nations to cull wolves at scale for the first time in 40 years, although countries would still be required to maintain a "favorable" conservation status for wolves. Many farmers support the proposal, citing the thousands of farm animals killed by wolves each year. However, environmental groups and some scientists argue that culling may not effectively reduce predation and could even worsen the problem. The proposal still needs unanimous approval from all 27 EU member states before becoming law. [Extracted from the article]
