Abstract
The poem centers on a dreamlike poetry workshop where the speaker interacts with the spirits of George, Breonna, and Trayvon, who represent individuals connected to themes of memory, loss, and love. As the class studies Robert Hayden’s “Those Winter Sundays,” the speaker reflects on the austere expressions of love and the enduring presence of the dead. Breonna, embodying the form of a sonnet, expresses a desire to write about love and loss, while Trayvon offers a vivid, imaginative self-portrait emphasizing freedom and flight. The poem weaves together references to historical poems and the speaker’s commitment to honoring the memories of those who have passed. [Extracted from the article]
