Abstract

The article focuses on Miles Hopgood's book, *How Luther Regards Moses: The Lectures on Deuteronomy*, which examines Martin Luther's choice to lecture on Deuteronomy and its significance in his theological development. Hopgood argues that Luther's engagement with Moses was influenced by his conflict with Andreas Karlstadt regarding Christian freedom and the law, prompting him to seek guidance from Moses as a lawgiver. The book is structured into a frame narrative and an analytic core, analyzing Luther's understanding of Moses as an author, prophet, and lawgiver, while also addressing the historical context of Luther's lectures. Although the book fills a gap in Luther studies, it could benefit from a deeper engagement with recent scholarship and additional lecture series by Luther. [Extracted from the article]
