Abstract
In the article, the author discusses the depiction of the environment and its legacy of forced labor, violence, torture, and death in nature poetry by examining the works of poets like Lucille Clifton. Also cited are the historic whiteness of nature poetry as tackled by Camille Dungy in her book "Black Nature: Four Centuries of African American Nature Poetry," and the history of environmental poetics during the Romantic era.
