Abstract

This article examines the theme of friendship betrayal in the short story *Noyi u hava muhlovo* from S. P. Chauke's 1992 collection *Tinhlolo Tihlolela Vinyi*, focusing on the complex dynamics between two friends, Tirhani and Thembhani, who engage in secret affairs with each other's wives. Using a qualitative narrative analysis framed by Attachment Theory, the study explores how greed, infidelity, and breaches of trust lead to emotional distress, the breakdown of relationships, and reveal underlying gender biases in perceptions of fidelity and honour. The findings highlight the devastating consequences of betrayal on friendships and marriages, emphasizing the importance of loyalty, communication, and trust for sustaining social harmony. The article concludes with recommendations for educational and policy interventions to foster secure attachments and conflict resolution skills to mitigate the impacts of betrayal.
