Abstract
The article focuses on Israel's parliament approving a special military tribunal to try hundreds of Palestinians accused of involvement in the October 7, 2023, attacks in southern Israel, with some facing possible execution. The tribunal, inspired by the 1961–1962 trial of Nazi Adolf Eichmann, aims to address the scale of the attacks that killed around 1,200 people and involved severe atrocities, including sexual violence. The legislation, supported by a majority of Knesset members but opposed by some including Palestinian minority representative Ahmad Tibi, has drawn international criticism, particularly from the European Union, due to its use of capital punishment and concerns over fair trial standards. The tribunal will operate in a specially constructed Jerusalem court with televised proceedings, while legal challenges related to the conflict continue at international courts.
