Abstract

The article focuses on the world premiere of *Are the Bennet Girls Ok?*, a bold adaptation of Jane Austen's *Pride and Prejudice* by playwright Emily Breeze, directed by Bedlam Artistic Director Eric Tucker. This production, presented by Bedlam—a New York-based theater company known for innovative classical revivals—reimagines the narrative by centering the relationships among the Bennet women and updating the language while maintaining the Regency-era setting. Breeze's adaptation challenges traditional interpretations of the characters, particularly Elizabeth Bennet's relationship with Mr. Darcy, and features an all-women ensemble with one actor portraying multiple male roles. The play previews begin September 14 at West End Theatre in New York City.
