Abstract

This article examines the African Union’s (AU) peace and regional integration initiatives through the theological and political lens of Ecclesiastes 4:12, which emphasizes the strength found in unity symbolized by a “threefold cord.” Focusing on case studies from Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the study analyzes how the AU’s multilateral approach to conflict resolution reflects the biblical principle of collective resilience, enabling more effective peacekeeping and diplomatic efforts than isolated state actions. Employing a theo-political framework and qualitative case study methodology, the research highlights the AU’s successes in reducing conflict intensity and fostering sustainable peace, while acknowledging challenges such as resource constraints and sovereignty concerns. The article contributes a unique integration of biblical exegesis with political analysis, proposing that combining secular diplomacy with spiritual wisdom offers new pathways for conflict resolution and regional cooperation in Africa.
