Abstract
Athol Fugard, South Africa's eminent playwright, died early in 2025. This psychoanalytic couple therapy paper analyses Fugard's (1972) play Statements after an arrest under the Immorality Act. The paper illustrates the developmental challenge and potential of loving a different other. The play is analysed using some psychoanalytic couple therapy concepts on difference. It demonstrates the challenge and potential of loving a different other. The couple therapist's challenge in the triangle of couple therapy working with racially different couples is also briefly explored. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
