Abstract
The article examines the manga *Berserk* (1989) through the lens of utopia, negation, and the concept of the "already dead." It argues that despite its dark and dystopian themes, *Berserk* embodies utopian qualities by engaging deeply with despair and the struggle of negation, particularly through the character Guts and his relationship with Griffith. The narrative explores the complexities of life and death, emphasizing that negation is a foundational aspect of envisioning alternatives to the present. Additionally, the article discusses the implications of the creator Miura Kentarō's death on the ongoing serialization of *Berserk*, positioning the work as "already dead" in a unique space between its creator's influence and its future continuation.
