Abstract

A. E. Stallings, the new Professor of Poetry at Oxford, is celebrated for her deep engagement with the Hellenic world. Stallings has a strong tie to Greece, having lived there for over 20 years and published translations from both modern and ancient Greek. Her poetry reflects her experiences in Greece, including her involvement in the refugee crisis. Stallings is known for her formal ingenuity and ability to see the ancient in the modern. She is also praised for her translations of ancient classics, such as Lucretius' De Rerum Natura and Hesiod's Works and Days. Stallings' appointment as Professor of Poetry is seen as a fitting choice due to her care and generosity towards students and other poets. [Extracted from the article]
