Abstract
The article provides a comprehensive overview of recent Chaucerian scholarship, focusing on critical theory, textual studies, and reception history. It highlights a major contribution, *A New Companion to Critical Thinking on Chaucer*, which employs a lexically grounded methodology analyzing Chaucer’s key Middle English words to explore themes such as agency, gender, and linguistic plurality across his works. Significant attention is given to studies on *The Canterbury Tales*, including digital humanities projects like the Canterbury Tales Project, and thematic analyses of individual pilgrims and tales, especially concerning issues of consent, power, and social dynamics. The article also surveys scholarship on Chaucer’s other works, such as *Troilus and Criseyde* and *The House of Fame*, emphasizing Italian influences, narrative perspectives, and media theory. Finally, it addresses Chaucer’s reception from the fifteenth century to the present, including feminist and antiracist readings, pedagogical approaches, and modern adaptations, while also engaging with ethical challenges in Chaucerian studies related to misogyny, sexual violence, and racism.
