Abstract
This article focuses on Abdullah Al Saadi, a pioneering Emirati conceptual artist and member of "The Five," who integrates personal memory, cultural heritage, and natural forms into his multidisciplinary art practice. Based in Khor Fakkan in the UAE, Al Saadi’s work centers on his lifelong documentation through diaries, scrolls, and sculptures, notably featuring the sweet potato as a recurring motif symbolizing grounded communication and cultural continuity. His artistic journey includes international residencies, such as in Japan, and participation in global exhibitions like the Venice Biennale and the Antarctic Biennale, reflecting his themes of travel, endurance, and the interplay between tradition and modernity. Curated by Sheikha Hoor Al-Qasimi, his projects emphasize the preservation of ephemeral histories amid rapid societal change, offering a contemplative counterpoint to contemporary technological distractions.
