Abstract
The novel doesn't belabor the point, but it's clear that her father's abandonment makes Helen vulnerable, despite her good sense, to Huntingdon's hollow professions of devotion and to his manipulative coercion. Arthur Huntingdon is the central cad, the man to whom the heroine, Helen, finds herself unhappily married. FATHER'S DAY FEATURES THE TENANT OF WILDFELL HALL, the lesser-known novel by the least famous of the Brontë sisters, Anne, is about what might be called toxic masculinity.
