Abstract
The article focuses on Walter Hood, a landscape architect and founder of Hood Design Studio, whose work integrates landscape architecture, sculpture, and cultural anthropology to reveal deep historical and social narratives. His design of the African Ancestors Memorial Garden at the International African American Museum in Charleston, South Carolina, uses water and sculptural elements to evoke the history of the transatlantic slave trade, notably through a representation of the slave ship Brookes. Hood’s projects, including community parks in Oakland, California, engage the public in reflecting on history and envisioning a more just future. [Extracted from the article]
