Abstract

This article reviews a recording by the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra under conductor Elim Chan, featuring excerpts from Sergei Prokofieff's *Romeo & Juliet* suites, Maurice Ravel's *Daphnis et Chloé* Suite 2, and Elizabeth Ogonek's *All These Lighted Things*. The Prokofieff selections include movements from both Suite 1 and Suite 2, noted for their varied moods and expressive playing, while Ravel's suite is described as delicate but occasionally slow. Elizabeth Ogonek, an American composer with notable academic and professional affiliations, contributes a 14-minute neoclassical piece characterized by three descriptively titled movements. Although the performances are well executed, the program's incomplete Prokofieff suites and the abundance of existing recordings of Ravel's work may limit the recording's appeal, placing significant emphasis on Ogonek's composition for potential listeners.
