Abstract
The poem reflects on childhood memories near the Clyde, focusing on the daily life surrounding sewing machine operators and the urban environment. It captures the narrator's youthful experiences, including playing games and observing the routines of adults in well-worn coats. The poem contrasts past vibrancy with the present, where the industrial machines have been removed and the area has become a dull residential space. Through these reflections, the poem evokes themes of change, memory, and the passage of time.
