Abstract
The article focuses on the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust's recent efforts to "decolonize" its museum in Stratford-upon-Avon by removing language from Shakespeare's works that may be considered offensive, aiming to create a more inclusive experience. It presents a fictionalized response from Shakespeare's perspective, expressing bewilderment at the reinterpretation of his plays as racist or misogynistic, and critiques contemporary efforts to challenge the traditional teaching and universal status of his works. The piece also discusses broader debates about revising historical and literary legacies to align with modern social values, questioning the concept of "decolonizing" a cultural heritage that is inherently Western.
