Abstract
The article reviews *One Battle After Another*, a 2025 film directed and written by Paul Thomas Anderson, inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s novel *Vineland*. The film centers on a dual narrative: Bob Ferguson (Leonardo DiCaprio), a former revolutionary known as Pat “Ghetto Pat” Calhoun, and his daughter Willa (Chase Infiniti), who live under assumed identities while confronting past betrayals and present threats. The story contrasts radical revolutionary ideals embodied by Perfidia Beverly Hills (Teyana Taylor) with the authoritarian pursuit led by Col. Steven J. Lockjaw (Sean Penn), intertwining themes of political violence, sexual freedom, and familial loyalty. Anderson’s adaptation diverges significantly from Pynchon’s novel, focusing on interpersonal conflicts and a tightly structured narrative propelled by Jonny Greenwood’s score, culminating in a tense pursuit set against a politically charged near-future America.
