Abstract

The article focuses on the meaning of the first stanza of William Shakespeare's poem "Sonnet 19" and concludes that the use of classical imagery in this sonnet is meant to emphasize the mortality of creatures and as a foil to the idea of immortality that the poet could promise to his lover.
