Abstract

This article focuses on the correspondence between Fernande Halerie, a French-born Jewish teenager, and her father Avram during the Holocaust, revealing a story of survival, love, and resilience. Avram was deported to forced labor camps linked to Auschwitz, where he maintained secret communication and a black-market network, relying on Fernande to deliver supplies in occupied Paris under a false identity. Despite Avram’s eventual death during a death march, Fernande survived with the help of a Catholic family and later emigrated to the United States, where her story and the extensive collection of letters have been preserved at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The letters highlight not only the horrors of the Holocaust but also the enduring hope and courage within a family’s bond amid unimaginable adversity.
