Abstract
This article focuses on the validation of the Craving Typology Questionnaire-15 (CTQ-15), a revised psychometric tool designed to assess alcohol craving in individuals with alcohol use disorder (AUD) based on a three-pathway model distinguishing reward, relief, and obsessive craving. Administered to normative Italian samples and patients diagnosed with AUD, the CTQ-15 demonstrated a reliable three-factor structure with good internal consistency and convergent validity, outperforming alternative models. The study highlights the clinical utility of the CTQ-15 for precise craving characterization, which may guide targeted pharmacological and psychosocial treatments tailored to the specific craving dimensions, potentially improving AUD management. Limitations include the non-representative normative sample and a relatively small clinical sample.
