Abstract
The article "Exploring Anachronism, Ornamentalism, and Citizenization in the Post-Racial Regency World of Bridgerton" analyzes the diverse and anachronistic world depicted in the Netflix series Bridgerton. It discusses the intentional anachronisms and selective accuracy in creating a visually vivid prosthetic memory of a multiracial nineteenth century, sparking debates about the portrayal of a multiracial aristocracy in historical fiction. The text also examines the challenges and successes of creating a racially diverse society in the spin-off series, "Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story," while acknowledging criticisms of reinforcing racial stereotypes and failing to challenge class privilege. Despite these limitations, Bridgerton fosters diverse audience engagement, sparking online commentary, critique, and public debate that challenge traditional notions of citizenship and engage with historiography.
