Dictionary Use by Trainee Translators.

Abstract
This article investigates the dictionary usage habits of 201 trainee translators enrolled in a four-year Translation and Interpreting degree at the University of Granada, Spain, focusing on differences across academic years and first foreign language (L2). The study found that electronic dictionaries, especially electronic bilingual general dictionaries, are predominantly used over paper resources, with usage and preference for computers increasing in later years while smartphone use declines. Although general dictionaries are frequently consulted, specialized and collocation dictionaries are rarely used, with specialized resource consultation rising modestly in advanced years. The findings suggest a need for enhanced training in dictionary use and typology to improve instrumental competence among translation students.
