Abstract
This paper examines the theme of women's silence and lack of agency in Amma Darko's *Beyond the Horizon* and Chinua Achebe's *Things Fall Apart*, highlighting how female characters are portrayed as subordinate and voiceless within patriarchal African societies. Drawing on feminist theoretical insights, it argues that these women are socially programmed to accept oppression, submission, and objectification, which silences them from speaking out against injustice or challenging male authority. The analysis reveals that silence functions as a marker of powerlessness and hegemonic control, rendering women unsafe and alienated. The study contributes to gender discourse by emphasizing the need for feminist scholarship to address gendered power imbalances in traditional and postcolonial contexts.
