Abstract

In the article, the author discusses the process of creating a cento and how students can explore topics like cultural memory, language theory, and collective storytelling by making one. Other topics include the cento-like essays of lawyer and philosopher Michel de Montaigne, the centos in the works of Homer, John Ashbery and Peter Gizzi, and tips on how teachers can teach cento to their students.
