Abstract
The article focuses on the compilation and characteristics of dictionary entries of abbreviations in terminological dictionaries for Slovene, with particular emphasis on the English–Slovene Dictionary of Criminal Justice and Security Abbreviations. This dictionary, developed by the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security at the University of Maribor and published online via the Termania platform, addresses the lack of Slovene terminological resources in the fields of criminal justice, security, law, policing, and the army. Drawing on the analysis of seventeen existing Slovene terminological dictionaries, the dictionary’s microstructure includes headwords, language and field qualifiers, expansions, and Slovene equivalents, while omitting elements like pronunciation and grammatical gender to suit its focus on abbreviations. The dictionary is freely accessible, regularly updated, and intended for professionals, students, linguists, translators, and the general public interested in specialized abbreviations within these fields.
