Abstract

The article centers on an imaginary interview with philosopher Martin Buber, using his work *I and Thou* to explore the relational and spiritual dimensions of psychedelic experiences. It presents a framework emphasizing how psychedelics may enhance connectedness—within the self, between individuals, and with the world—through what Buber terms the “I-Thou” relationship, contrasting this with purely internal or mystical experiences. Drawing on the author’s interdisciplinary research, including studies with Israeli and Palestinian ayahuasca users, the article highlights psychedelics’ potential to foster intersubjective and intercultural bonds while acknowledging limitations such as the risk of silencing conflict. Ultimately, it suggests that genuine relational encounters, characterized by total acceptance of the present, are central to both psychedelic experiences and broader healing from societal alienation.
