Abstract
This special mini-issue focuses on Netflix's period drama series Bridgerton (2020–present) and its role in exploring historical and contemporary issues through the lens of Regency-era romance. The collection of essays examines themes such as female representation, colour-conscious casting, and the series’ impact on public understanding of history, particularly regarding women's sexuality, reproductive rights, and social status in the early nineteenth century. Bridgerton is also discussed as a cultural phenomenon that shapes fan engagement and influences trends in interior decorating, education, and popular perceptions of the Regency period. The issue highlights diverse academic and fan perspectives, including debates on historical authenticity and the series’ approach to race and feminism, while acknowledging Bridgerton’s contribution to expanding the audience for period dramas.
