Abstract
The article focuses on the 2023 sales performance of comics and graphic novels in North America, reporting a 7% decline to $1.87 billion from $2.01 billion in 2022, according to estimates from ICv2, a market research firm specializing in this sector. Despite the decrease, ICv2 president Milton Griepp noted that 2023 sales remain significantly higher than pre-pandemic levels in 2019. The report highlights consistent sales trends across formats—graphic novels and periodicals—and sales channels, including comic stores and online retailers. ICv2 has updated its methodology to track sales more accurately amid market fragmentation, relying on point-of-sale data from the ComicHub system and excluding digital download-to-own sales due to the growing, less transparent subscription-based digital market.
