Abstract

The article focuses on Samantha Harvey's novel *Orbital*, which won the 2024 Booker Prize and the 2024 Hawthornden Prize for Literature. The book centers on six astronauts aboard the International Space Station during a nine-month mission, exploring themes of bereavement, loneliness, and the human experience from the unique perspective of low Earth orbit. Harvey, an English novelist and the only British writer on the 2024 Booker shortlist, is the first woman to win the prize since 2019. Published by Grove Press in the U.S., *Orbital* has seen multiple print runs following its critical acclaim. The Booker Prize judges praised the novel for its poetic meditation on Earth and the value of human life.
