Abstract
In the article, the author discusses the ambiguity of aesthetic value due to factors like the complications of its conceptual history and its complicated relationship to the concept of art. Other topics include the theories of art by John Dewey and Monroe Beardsley, the consideration of aesthetic values like sublimity and beauty, the creation of aesthetic value as the key function of art, the intimate relationship between art and he aesthetic, as well as Plato's condemnatory theory of art as a lower-order mimesis.
