Abstract

The article examines various aspects of nature as depicted in the travelogues of two prominent Indian writers, Rabindra Nath Tagore and Mahasweta Devi, spanning approximately 150 years during colonial and post-colonial periods. Tagore, a Nobel laureate and environmental thinker, traveled extensively across continents and emphasized a harmonious relationship between humans and nature, portraying nature's dominance and nurturing role in sustaining life. Mahasweta Devi, an activist and writer deeply connected with tribal communities in India, highlighted the exploitation of both marginalized people and natural environments caused by government policies, brokers, and colonial/post-colonial powers. The study reveals that while nature is foundational to human civilization, interference driven by profit and development has led to environmental degradation, underscoring the urgent need for responsible stewardship to preserve nature for future generations.
