Abstract
The author offers a look into the literary works of African American author Jamaica Kincaid. He discusses Kincaid's penchant for assuming he blackness of her characters such as in the short story "Girl," her blending of reportage and personal experience with understanding of history, the themes of gardens, race, racism, colonialism and literature in her works, as well as her relationship with her mother and resentment toward her, and her self-scrutiny that spreads to other her other themes.
