Abstract

The article focuses on the theme of uncertainty during Advent, reflecting on biblical imagery from Mark's Gospel that portrays cosmic disturbances accompanying Christ's second coming. It connects this imagery to contemporary experiences of shaken trust in institutions and communities amid crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, economic challenges, and global conflicts. Drawing on insights from the book *Trust in Public Life*, the article highlights the importance of self-knowledge, self-trust, and courageous engagement with both internal and external uncertainties as ways to navigate this darkness. Ultimately, it emphasizes turning toward Christ, who provides strength, hope, and fellowship amid disorienting times, encouraging readers to remain watchful and attentive during the Advent season.
