Abstract
In the short stories Navidades de Madrid (Madrid, 1663), by Mariana de Carvajal y Saavedra, various physical and emotional ailments are mentioned, along with therapeutic remedies, particularly for melancholy caused by romantic problems. Among the remedies, humour plays a fundamental role, in various forms (jokes, poems). I would like to examine these ailments, the methods used to cure them, the narrator's opinion on these issues, and humour as a therapy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
