Abstract

The article focuses on the theme of trauma, slavery, and the Indian Ocean imaginary in the works of authors, M. G. Vassanji and Abdulrazak Gurnah. It explores the connection between slavery and the displacement experienced by characters in Gurnah's novels, and how the trauma of slavery shapes their individual biographies. It also examines the historical context of the Zanzibari Revolution and its impact on the racial hierarchy in the region.
