Abstract

The article focuses on the number of ancient Cypriot graffiti carved into Egyptian monuments, revealing the presence and experiences of Cypriot travellers and mercenaries in Egypt. Topics include the use of the Cypriot syllabary and multilingual inscriptions, the role of Cypriot soldiers in the alliance between Evagoras I and the Egyptian pharaoh Acoris against the Achaemenids, and how these graffiti reflect identity, literacy, cultural diversity, and the human desire to leave a personal mark.
