Abstract

The article focuses on the literary career and themes of George Orwell, born Eric Blair, highlighting his early patriotic poem at age 11 and his adoption of the pen name in 1932. It explores Orwell's enduring influence from his prep-school experiences and his portrayal of individualism under various forms of oppression, such as imperialism in *Burmese Days* and capitalism in *Keep the Aspidistra Flying*. Orwell's novel *Nineteen Eighty-Four* (1949), originally titled *The Last Man in Europe*, depicts totalitarian oppression and serves as a cautionary satire urging readers to defend individual liberty. Throughout his work, Orwell expressed faith in ordinary people as the hope for resisting tyranny.
