Abstract
The article focuses on the challenges faced by publishers and creative teams in placing award stickers, particularly the Caldecott Medal seal, on children’s picture book covers after winning prestigious honors. The Caldecott Medal, awarded by the American Library Association (ALA) for the most distinguished American picture book for children, is represented by a two-inch golden sticker that must be affixed by hand, often requiring careful negotiation to avoid obscuring key artwork. Publishers and designers emphasize that while multiple award seals can complicate cover design, the stickers serve as important visual markers that attract readers. Despite the logistical challenges, industry professionals avoid designing covers with potential award placements in mind, citing superstition and the unpredictability of winning as reasons to focus on strong original designs rather than anticipating accolades.
