Abstract

The article reviews *Queer Atlantic: Masculinity, Mobility, and the Emergence of Modernist Form*, which examines the representation of queerness in the mobile white male subject within modernist and late nineteenth-century transatlantic literature. Focusing on authors such as Herman Melville, Robert Louis Stevenson, Henry James, Joseph Conrad, and Ford Madox Ford, the book explores how these writers depict masculinity as simultaneously hegemonic and subversive through themes of mobility and liminality. The study engages with queer theory not as a fixed identity but as a methodological tool to reveal complexities in normative masculinity, particularly within privileged white male subjects. The work acknowledges its limitations regarding race and gender diversity and situates itself within broader discussions in transatlantic, masculinity, and queer studies.
