Abstract
The article focuses on Indian author Arundhati Roy receiving the 2024 PEN Pinter Prize, awarded by English PEN to writers of outstanding literary merit who confront injustice. Roy, the first Indian Booker Prize winner, was recognized for her "urgent stories of injustice with wit and beauty" and her internationalist perspective. The award comes amid legal action approved by Indian authorities to prosecute Roy under anti-terror laws for her 2010 comments on Kashmir, a disputed territory, which has sparked controversy and calls from over 200 Indian academics and activists to drop the charges. Roy is scheduled to receive the prize at a ceremony in London on October 10.
