Abstract
This article reviews *Approaches to Teaching the Works of Flannery O'Connor*, a 2019 volume edited by Robert Donahoo and Marshall Bruce Gentry that offers pedagogical strategies for teaching the mid-twentieth-century Southern writer Flannery O'Connor. The book is divided into two parts: "Materials," which provides background resources and critical scholarship on O'Connor, and "Approaches," which presents essays addressing challenges in teaching her works, including themes of religion, race, history, and interdisciplinary contexts. Contributors expand the teaching canon beyond O'Connor’s well-known texts and Catholic Southern identity, incorporating perspectives such as ecocriticism, science and technology studies, and popular culture. While the volume is praised for its comprehensive and innovative approaches, it is noted that its contributors are predominantly U.S.-based and that it lacks guidance on teaching O'Connor in online settings.
