Abstract

A study conducted at Denison University in Granville, Ohio, explores the psychological aspects of Pyrrhonism, a school of skepticism in philosophy. The study suggests that Pyrrhonists have three psychological characteristics: a compulsion to seek truth, disturbance caused by anomalies in facts, and the ability to achieve tranquility through suspension of judgment. The research proposes that this psychological interpretation helps resolve the "inquiry problem" and introduces a new concept called psychological value. Overall, the study concludes that Pyrrhonists experience ataraxia, or tranquility, more regularly than non-Pyrrhonists. The research has been peer-reviewed and is available for further reading.
